It's hard to know what does the fox say when you don't have ears to hear! Try these DIY felt fox ears to make sure you don't miss a peep, hiccup, bark or bellow. We needed a quick show and tell idea and as Ylvis' What Does the Fox Say made its round through our house I figured we should honor the moment and whip up some felt fox ears to get into the groove. I encourage variation on this easy DIY project, but here are materials and instructions to get you started on your own DIY felt fox ears. In about 15 minutes including the glue gun warm up, you'll have a pair of pert little fox ears to clip to your own little human mammals.

Here's what you'll need for your DIY felt fox ears:

  • Scrap felt in black, orange and ivory or white
  • Barrette clips of any sort
  • Embroidery needle
  • Orange embroidery thread
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Glue sticks

Here's how you'll make your DIy felt fox ears: Start by firing up your glue gun and prepping your work area with an art mat like ours at Satsuma Designs (use code: newsatsuma for 20% off NOW) Now use my photos as a rough template to cut your felt to size. Consider the size of your subject so they'll be appropriately proportional for your little fox. Layer black, then 2/3 orange, then ivory or white. Thread your embroidery needle and start blanket stitching the felt together. Tie off and hide the knot. Now glue your ear(s) to your clips. You can cover your barrettes in narrow ribbon if you like, but this is totally optional. Enjoy discovering what the fox says! diy felt fox earsfelt fox ear barettes
