Soft Pretzels with Honey Mustard Sauce

Soft Pretzels with Honey Mustard Sauce

Game Day isn’t the same without hot and tasty snacks! This football season, I’m adding soft pretzels with honey mustard sauce to my game day feast rotation. This recipe is so easy to make and fans love the hot pretzels with savory and sweet dipping sauce.

Before we host our friends and family for the big game, I'll prep my dough and give these soft, salted pretzels time to rise and rest. It's easy to pop these in the oven for just 10 minutes and serve hot, crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside.

I serve my soft pretzels with my favorite honey mustard sauce, but that's not all you can try. Pair these snacks with cheddar cheese dip, ranch dressing, or mustard. Top them with shredded cheese for an ooey, gooey treat. Unlike, the big game on TV, there are no rules to how you'll enjoy these soft pretzels!

I sometimes shy away from recipes that I know I'll compare to bakery or specialty store fare. But this recipe calls for pantry staples and combines into a no-miss result. With just a little bit of elbow grease needed for the dough kneading, it's otherwise a simple recipe.

Paired with a sweet and savory honey mustard dipping sauce or whatever your game day crew loves, soft pretzels are a game changer!

Soft Pretzels with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
Authentic soft pretzels to make for game day or any day. Pair with savory and sweet honey mustard dipping sauce.
Ingredients
  • 1 standard packet of dry yeast (2.25 tsp)
  • 1 c warm water
  • 1 TBS unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp table salt
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 c water
  • 4 TBS baking soda
  • 1 TBS Kosher or other coarse salt for topping (optional)
  • 4 TBS unsalted butter, melted (optional)

Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

  • 1/4 c mayo
  • 1 TBS Dijon mustard
  • 1 TBS honey
Instructions
Preheat oven to 475 degrees.
Prepare one cookie sheet with a piece of parchment paper.
Pour water, yeast and sugar into the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle or hook attachment.
When mixture is frothy/foamy, add salt and butter.
Turn on mixer and slowly add 3 cups of flour until dough is not sticky to the touch. You may need to add more flour.
Turn out dough onto a floured surface and begin to knead dough. Do so for five minutes.
Place dough back in mixer bowl and let rest for 15 minutes.
While waiting, boil 2 cups of water with 4 TBS baking soda to make your pretzel bath (used before baking).
When baking soda is dissolved, turn off heat and let cool to room temperature. When cooled, pour into a 9"x 9" baking dish.
After dough has rested, cut into 8 equal sections on a floured cutting board using a pizza cutter as you would slice a pizza.
Roll each of these piece into a ball and then into a long 18" rope.
Wrap each rope in a pretzel shape and place in your 9"x 9" dish to submerge in the water/soda bath. Let each pretzel sit in the bath for 2 minutes. Ahh, Calgon take this pretzel away!
Remove pretzels from the bath and place on parchment covered cookie sheet and dust with coarse salt.
Bake for 9-10 minutes until golden brown.
Brush baked pretzels with melted butter. (optional)
While baking, mix your honey mustard dipping sauce by combing the last three ingredients above.
Enjoy pretzels hot from the oven with the sauce!
