I love to set fun tablescapes for every holiday and that's the inspiration for these mischievous little leprechauns.

With bendable arms, friendly, felt leprechauns are perfect for holding place cards, popping up behind a beverage and hugging a pot of gold!

Read and watch below how easy it is to create these festive friends.

More Easy Crafting for Kids

This leprechaun craft is great for kids as it only requires a few materials.

When crafting with kids also keep in mind sharp and hot implements such as scissors and hot glue guns.

If kids will be working somewhat independently, be sure to offer blunt tipped scissors and craft glue as opposed to a hot glue gun.

Here are some more fun - and independent! - crafts for kids.

Felt Leprechaun Materials

Like all my crafting, I recommend diving into your existing craft supply bin first for materials.

It's always a treat to both find forgotten supplies or use up materials from other projects.

Start by collecting the following:

  • Green felt sheet at least 10-11" long (this is for arms, which is why it needs to be long)
  • Orange felt - scrap size is great - only 2" wide X 3" long for the beard. You'll need more if you're making more leprechauns, naturally!
  • Black felt - scrap size is great here as you only need a bit for the hat accent piece (see video above for layering technique)
  • Green sparkle stem(s)
  • Sparkle pom poms - 1 orange (nose), 1 mini yellow (hat accent) and 3-4 mini green (shamrock)
  • Ruler or soft tape measure
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun OR fabric or craft glue

How To Make Felt Leprechauns

Start by cutting out your elements: hat, brim, hat accent, beard, arms, 'body'.

Have fun by creating your own sizes and dimensions for the leprechaun hats and bodies.

Next, create your leprechaun's full felt beard by folding a bit of orange felt in half and then cutting small slits up each layer (top and bottom) to create some dimension. (see video above for illustration)

The main measured element is the arms, which should reach around a glass if you like. Measure the glass in advance.

Next, measure out your sparkle stem to match the length of your green felt arms.

Use glue to attach the sparkle stem lengthwise to the middle of the arms leaving 1" UNGLUED at either end of the arms.

This allows you to use the last 1" sparkle stem on either side of the arms to hook around each other to secure to whatever you're adding your leprechaun to. I hope that makes sense. The video walks you through too!

Now add your little pom poms and enjoy!

If you have any doubt about the written instructions, I encourage you to watch the video for ease.
