How to Swaddle a Baby

Swaddling has been around for centuries but its recently returned to popularity. Moms, dads and other caretakers swear by it.

Here's a way to swaddle baby to enjoy restful sleep for all. If you want to try it out with your baby, have patience!

A good swaddle takes practice! Satsuma's flannel swaddling blanket - over-sized for the perfect swaddle Use a swaddling blanket that isn't too thick (to avoid baby being too warm) and choose an over-sized swaddle that won't come undone.

We carry a summertime swaddle made in super soft bamboo jersey is stretchy and very breathable.

There are quite a few different shapes of swaddles: some are T-shaped, some are square, some have fasteners and some rely on mom and dad to tuck the swaddle just-so. In any case, we recommend using a classic swaddle method that goes as follows.

How to Swaddle a Baby

  1. Lay your swaddling blanket on a bed in a diamond shape.
  2. Fold down the top corner 1/3 of the way from the top so now you have an uneven triangle with the point down.
  3. Lay baby on the swaddling blanket with her head in the middle of the fold.
  4. Pull one corner (left) of the blanket over baby's chest and tuck under his opposite arm.
  5. Fold the bottom of the blanket up over baby's feet and tuck under her shoulder (the same side that you just tucked the left corner under).
  6. Now pull the other side corner (right) up and over baby's chest and tuck underneath her body for a snuggled swaddle that will keep her happy and secure.
