Welcome! Here you'll find products that help make caring for kids as easy as child's play.

At Satsuma Designs we love kids! It’s why we do what we do. Every design in our collection, business decision, daily detail and inspiration comes from our mission to curate and create cozy, all natural and useful products for the people who care for and comfort little ones.

My dream for Satsuma Designs is to have a company that thrives on serving families and expecting families with products that help make caring for kids easier, natural and fun. I want to communicate that life with baby may be more spit-ups than soft cuddly clouds, but it’s the most exciting, rewarding and love-filled way to live a fulfilling life.

Satsuma Designs is made in Seattle by a local team that contributes to our community and economy. We work daily to help feed hungry babies in our community by using a portion of every Satsuma Designs order to purchase infant formula that is distributed by one of Seattle's 27 food banks and the Food Driving Box program committed to helping drive away hunger in the Northwest.

I want parents and care givers to know that it’s both okay and fun to be messy with baby and that though there may not be a Parents’ Handbook, there is a way to parent right and that’s with love, integrity and joy.

Babies and their loving families are what prompted the launch of our blog, found at the link at left. Written by me, first draft typos and all, our team set out to create a place where readers will find quick and crafty solutions for the busy, happy family. As a parent and worker bee, I’m obsessed with efficiency, but also love the creative tools and delicious things that make life sweet. My goal is to offer easy and affordable ideas and solutions to many of family life’s little challenges to help make things a bit less stressful and more relaxed. I’m not a licensed counselor, but if your baby nesting has reached a new level and you need an eco-chic nursery tonight(!), a wash cloth rose bud bouquet or moist green chili cornbread, look no further, friends.

Most of all, enjoy!

♥ Jennifer

Satsuma Designs | gifts + gear that make caring for kids as easy as child's play!

As parents and consumers, many of us are guided by a desire to make smart, healthy, and affordable products and lifestyle decisions consistent with environmental stewardship. Our collection is designed and made in Seattle, Washington by a dedicated team of people who take care with every cut and stitch knowing that what we make will one day comfort a baby.

And every order does a little more. Satsuma Designs supports the work of the Food Driving Box Program, an initiative I started to help drive away hunger in the Northwest. A Food Driving Box is a FREE, reusable cardboard box that lists our 27 Seattle area food banks. Supporters place the box in the back of their vehicle and add a couple items of non-perishable food to the box every time they grocery shop. They drop the contents at their local Food Bank every 4 to 6 weeks and do it again! It has been an incredible tool for families to use to help educate and coach their kids to care about our community. Learn more about the Food Driving Box Program here. If you'd like to start one in your area, ping me at jennifer @ satsumadesigns.com. Thank you!

About Our Materials

At Satsuma Designs we create our products from all natural fibers that treat baby and the environment with a soft touch. Our collection of products is all natural in content, color and our commitment to our customer. We use an assortment of natural materials that include bamboo, organic cotton and more.

Organically Grown and Harvested Bamboo

Bamboo is a sustainable and organically grown resource. At Satsuma Designs we work with suppliers who operate with the most environmentally friendly production practices. Discover our naturally antibacterial products spun from bamboo. Viscose from bamboo is fashioned from all natural materials, our blankets and accessories drape like silk and wash like cotton.

Sustainable Resource

  • Bamboo is grown without pesticides.
  • It’s a renewable resource that retains and maintains soil health.
  • Bamboo grows to maturity in 2-3 years.

Closed loop production methods

The fabrics we use in our products are manufactured using the most innovative closed loop production systems that preserve the integrity of the fabric and protect the environment in which they’re produced.

Comfortable and Clean

  • Our bamboo has an incredible soft “hand”. Whether choosing a silky jersey, plush velour or cozy terry or fleece, Satsuma Designs’ bamboo will comfort again and again.
  • Bamboo is naturally antibacterial. Its intrinsic properties fend off microbes in the wild and third party tests of our fabric have shown the same.
  • Bamboo is breathable and thermo-regulating. With a high absorbency rate, it wicks moisture away while the natural fiber allows the transfer of air for ultimate comfort.
  • We promote bamboo’s natural color without harsh dyes. We only use natural dyes in our products.

  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100 – 2010+
  • Meets Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requirements
  • Organic Crops Improvement Association International (OCIA) has certified the farms that produce the bamboo we use as organic and wild.

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and support biologically diverse agriculture.

Certification: Oeko-Tex Standard 100 – 2010
