Let it be known that these ideas for courtesy shopping should not be exclusive to Black Friday and seasonal shopping. My Black Friday shopping etiquette guide can be used throughout the year to spread a feeling of fellowship and courtesy through store aisles everywhere.
- Say 'pardon me or excuse me' when passing in front of someone in the grocery aisle.
- Pull off to the side of any shopping aisle to text, make a phone call or check your shopping list.
- When navigating a shopping cart in any retail setting, use the lanes, stay right and don't use the middle of the aisle. When you keep your cart to the right, it models for others the rules of the retail road.
- Set a good example and save a few extra steps for a tired retail employee when you return your cart to the front of the store or to the designated holding areas.
- Observe the rules of the pedestrian road: walk on the left and stand on the right on escalators and moving walkways.
- When waiting to use an elevator, please let shoppers exit the elevator before entering. Show your courtesy by stepping well to the side and holding the door for those with shopping bags, strollers and wheeled carts.
- Be mindful of other browsers. Take note of those shopping on the same rack and make sure that they have the space they need to browse. If they're observant, they'll note your courtesy and reciprocate. If not, take a breath and head to another rack!
Easy Ways to Make Your Black Friday Shopping Delightful
- Bring your own shopping bags. Opt for lightweight bags that easily fold up to stow in your handbag.
- Make a list and stick to it. Start your shopping adventure by ticking off all of the items on your list. Save enough time and energy to shop for new and unexpected treasures.
- And it's essential you leave time for a coffee and cookie break too!
- Go the extra mile for someone else and spring for the order of the person behind you on the coffee line. Santa will note you on the Nice list immediately!
