Desktop Traveler | Country Visit Worksheet
With school called off in the Pacific Northwest, we are all scrambling to give our kids the intellectual stimulation to keep them engaged and curious in lots of different subjects.
Given the global nature of the challenge we're all facing this spring, I thought it would be a good idea to do a deep dive (or deeper than shallow!) into the countries of the world.
If Covid-19 is showing us anything besides good hygiene and an introduction to Social Distancing, it's what a global community we really are.
As global citizens will be challenged many times over to understand what our brothers and sister across oceans and continents are facing.
Let us all be curious about how other people live, how cultures differ and how they are similar too!
I've created what I'm calling my Country Visit Worksheet for all of us Desktop Travelers who find us more often at the kitchen table than flying the Friendly Skies right now.
How to Use Your Country Visit Worksheet
I've created two versions - one full color and one black and white - of my country visit worksheet so that you can print as many as you like as affordably as you like.
I like to go down the road to my FedEx Kinkos shop and get a bundle printed to have on hand as we make our way through the 195 countries of the world.
Oh, I didn't mention there are 195 countries to explore?!
Here's a great list of all the countries of the world listed alphabetically.
Pace and Patience
There's no need to be overwhelmed by this project. Remember to enjoy the journey not just the destination for this assignment.
At our house, we're going to start at the top with Afghanistan and work our way down. We may find that some countries in the same region share some similar characteristics, which we plan to note as well.
To keep the fun going, notice differences and similarities amongst all the countries.
And, I'll be keeping note of how many countries start with the letters A, B, C and so on!
Research Tools
Without a doubt, we will be relying on our pals at Google to help us fill in the blanks to many of the questions posed on the country visit worksheet.
The Internet isn't the only tool we'll be using on our homebound journey. We'll comb our bookshelves for both children's books and reference books to find answers.
We'll visit our school's library that is still open to students and families. If your town's libraries are still open to the public, consider a visit to both get you out of the house and teach a little about library hunting. Fun!

Design Details
I had fun using doodle paintbrushes in Adobe Illustrator for some of the graphic details on this sheet.
I used Blockhead OT Unplugged font for a whimsical hand-drawn effect.
