Our family has enjoyed the British tradition of Christmas crackers for many years. I love the fun and festive start to a holiday feast and a few jokes around the table always sets the mood!
I'm sharing my own DIY snowman and reindeer Christmas crackers with free printables project so that you too can save your holiday pennies for other treats this season.
My easy to make and inexpensive to assemble Christmas crackers come in two seasonal styles. My happy little snowman and quiet eyed reindeer are fun for both the adult and kiddo tables for your holiday feast.
Christmas Crackers Supplies
You'll need a couple of essential elements to make a traditional Christmas cracker. The first is the snap strip that makes the fun POP when the cracker is pulled apart.
The next items include a tissue paper or foil crown, some jokes or riddles and a little toy trinket. I found some sweet jokes here to print and snip.
The supply list includes...
- Cracker snaps
- 8.5" x 11" paper printable - snowman and/or reindeer version
- Double sided tape
- Glue stick to secure the snap to the paper
- Scissors and/or craft knife to slice the diamond shapes out of the cracker pages
- Craft mat if using a craft knife
- Jokes and riddles in paper strips
- Ribbon and or sparkle stems to secure the ends of your crackers
- Miniature gift or trinket
How to Assemble your Christmas Cracker
It's very easy to create your own Christmas crackers with these two PDF files. Decide which version you'd like to make - or try both!
Click the PDF link below and download to your computer. Open the file and print onto a light card-stock sheet of 8.5"x11" paper.
When your pages are printed, use a craft knife to slice away the diamond shapes that you see on the top and bottom of the pages. These spaces allow for a nice clean closure on your cracker.
I use a self-healing craft mat under my pages when I cut out the diamond shapes.
Pro Tip: To make easy and fast work of slicing out the diamonds, I cut all one direction, turn my page 45 degrees and slice in the other direction.
Then I use the tip of my craft knife to press the small diamond shape through the opening and sweep aside.
Next, I use a glue stick to attach the snap to the inside of my paper making sure to only swipe glue on the ends of the snap.
I roll up my cracker and secure with double sided tape along the back of the cracker. For best results, you may want to trim up to 2" off the long side of the cracker so that your spacing is nice and all the snowman or reindeer shows.
With one end of the cracker secure, I slide my paper crown, jokes, and trinket into the other end and secure that side.
That's it! I'm now ready to set my table and distribute the Christmas crackers.

Using Your Christmas Crackers
In spite of the name, Christmas crackers aren't just for December! Try these easy and fun party favors for birthdays, Easter, baby and wedding showers.
Create your owned themed party crackers whenever you're hosting guests and celebrating life's special events.
I place my Christmas crackers on each guest's plate around the table. These become a pretty focal point of my table scape and everyone's eyes light up when they think of the fun to come.
I hope you enjoy making your own Christmas crackers too!
