Glitter Ball Ornaments

Starting in about October (no lie!), you'll start to see the holiday decorations and craft supplies at your local Dollar Tree. I'm not sure what other dollar stores do, but I love my Dollar Tree and it's our only option in the Pacific Northwest.

So before Halloween, you'll find me stocking up on holiday decor ideas like these glitter ball ornaments. They're easy and quick to make and really don't involve too much of a mess. Just put down a plastic placemat and newspaper to keep your craft space spiffy!

Materials

  • Clear plastic ball ornaments from the dollar store. The ones you see here were 2 for a dollar. They're the 2.5" diameter versions, but you could upgrade to the 4" diameter balls as well.
  • Glitter it! glue - it's a clear liquid glue with low viscosity, which makes it the perfect adhesive for this project.
  • Sparkle stems - silver, brown, burnt orange...2 stems per reindeer ornament
  • Scissors
  • Pom poms
  • Oil based pens for eyes and mouth
  • Paper cup
  • Paper towel
  • Glue gun and glue sticks or craft glue

Instructions for Reindeer

Don't let the materials list intimidate you, aside from the balls and Glitter it! glue, you should have everything on hand.

Start by setting up your work station and plugging in your glue gun.

Next pop the top off your ornament.

Pour about 1 TBS of Glitter it! into the ball and start swirling that glue around the inside of the ball.

When you're ready to roll the glue onto the very top of the ball, hold the ornament over the paper cup and gently swirl around so you get the glue on the very top of the ornament.

Now, let your ball rest top down in the cup to drain while you get your glitter to hand.

Turn the ball right side up and pour about 2 TBS of glitter in the ball and start swirling. Get it on all sides! Have fun! Shake it, swirl it, yay!

Now, bend your sparkle stems into horns and place them on top of your ornament.

Gently reattach the top of your ornament and secure the horns.

Now, use your oil pens to draw eyes and a mouth.

Next, glue a pom pom on for a nose, hang that ornament and enjoy!

Make Frosty the Snowman

To make Frosty the Snowman, simply draw your eyes and mouth differently and use pom poms for his nose and scarf. Add a little ribbon if you like. My daughter says this essential as otherwise it looks like Frosty is wearing a big necklace instead of a scarf. Noted.
