Philly Cheesesteak Burrito Recipe
Philly Cheesesteak Burrito Recipe
Have you had the pure culinary delight of sampling a philly cheesesteak in Philadelphia? It's been many years now, but I can still remember the taste of that savory steak, grilled veggies and creamy cheese eaten from a paper cone on the sidewalk. Wow!
By no means is this a replacement recipe to the original glorious cheesesteak, but a variation to serve for a quick and affordable weeknight meal.
I've taken my family's love of ground beef added sautéed veggies, savory Worcestershire sauce and ample seasoning and wrapped it up in a crispy burrito.
I serve a green salad with these philly cheesesteak burritos for a tasty balanced low carb dinner.
Meat Substitutions for a Family Budget
If you're serving a family every day and night of the week, food expenses can climb quickly.
To temper meat and protein expense in my meal planning, I will try to use meat substitutions in my recipes.
I'm not talking about non-meat substitutions, rather different cuts of meat to stretch my dollar further.
Traditional cuts of meet to Ground meat - Do what I did here and create a riff on your recipe using the ground version of whatever your recipe calls for. Ground beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, veal, pork and seasoned sausage are terrific affordable options.
Steak - If you're looking for a juicy and savory steak, try less expensive, top sirloin with a better price than ribeye or t-bone steaks.
Pork Tenderloin - This lean cut of pork can be more expensive than a bit fattier, but still lean pork sirloin roasts or pork rib roasts.
Lamb - instead of rack of lamb, try shoulder or loin cuts.
Boneless Chicken Breast - This ubiquitous chicken option can be more economical if less processed. Opt for bone in and skin on or a combo of breast and wing.
