Retro Birthday Party Bash
Retro Birthday Party Bash
With all the amazing birthday theme possibilities out there it can be overwhelming to settle on how to celebrate someone's special day.
I was so happy to find some adorable retro style birthday paper plates and napkins at my dollar store that launched my colorful retro birthday party bash.
I absolutely love the retro starburst motif I found in these plates. For my retro birthday party bash I wanted to echo the starburst motif and found a way to do it with a game of Jacks as well as my easy DIY sparkle pipe cleaner starbursts that you'll find below.
Retro Birthday Party Games
It was easy to come up with fun games for my retro birthday party. At Satsuma Kids Shop we sell a variety of vintage games for kids and adults. My favorites are Jacks and Pick-up Sticks!
Party favors included yo-yos and glow-in-the-dark planets and stars stickers to repeat the outer space motif of the party accessories.
DIY Sparkle Starbursts
It's easy to make these fun sparkle pipe cleaner starburst accessories. I made 1 small, 2 medium and 1 large starburst and topped them with pom poms.
To make your own, simply take three pipe cleaners and cut to length.
Twist your three pipe cleaners in the middle and bend the ends out to secure each other. Bend three to serve as supports and three up in the 'air'.
Use a glue gun or craft glue to attach pom poms to the end of each pipe cleaner.
Retro Birthday Party Menu
Another inspiration for my retro birthday party was a classic dessert that my parents would have had at their birthday parties. I chose a roasted banana pudding recipe from America's Test Kitchen.
To round out the sweet treat, I served fresh, ripe strawberries, peanut butter celery sticks and homemade Cracker Jack.

My party wouldn't be complete without a colorful tassel garland. I used the colors from my plates and napkins to make this cheerful decor piece. Strung along blue and white baker's twine, I can reuse all of these colors for future parties too.
