This season, I found the perfect solution to focus our family time on the things that matter and still feed my crew. My local QFC has a great deal on ready to heat pizza and Coca-Cola™ products that my family loves. I choose Sprite® and Diet Coke® along with 6 cheese and double pepperoni pizzas.
On my way home from work, I pick up ready to bake pizzas and a couple of beverages along with my craft supplies that I can find at my neighborhood QFC. For less than $20 I can feed my whole family plus a few friends!
Once home, my pizzas are done in minutes and dinner's on the table. That leaves time to chat about our day and get to our crafting! My DIY bird feeder ornaments with star printables are my favorite little treat for hostess, teacher and neighbor gifts.
I love to hang these bird feeders in a window so we can have close access to our feathered friends. If not hanging these holiday bird feeders on a branch, I use a small nail or adhesive hook to attach the bird feeder to the window frame to enjoy.

Make Bird Feeders and Paper Star Ornaments
I hang my bird feeders on our maple tree just outside our family room window. It's where the kids and I spy all kinds of feathered guests!
Materials
- Bag of birdseed - I found a colorful mix with red and green at QFC in the pet food aisle.
- 2 packets unflavored gelatin
- Corn syrup
- Water
- Star cookie cutters
- Drink straw to make hole for twine or ribbon
- Twine or ribbon to hang bird feeders and paper stars in window or tree
- Scissors
- Glue stick to create paper stars
- Spray shellac (optional if using indoors)
How to Make Your Bird Feeders
Start by following the gelatin instructions on the packet. Add 1/2 cup of water to a large mixing bowl, then add the gelatin and another 1/2 cup boiling water. Stir until dissolved.
Next, add 1/4 cup corn syrup until mixed.
Finally, add your birdseed - about 2 cups - and let the gelatin set and birdseed firm up. Pop the bowl in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes to let this set up if needed.
Now, start filling your star cookie cutters and have fun!
I placed a piece of parchment paper on a jelly roll pan to keep my mess to a minimum and allow for super fast and easy clean up.
When your cookie cutters are full, use your drinking straw to make a hole for the twine in the top of your bird feeder. Make sure to place your straw about 1/2" or more from the edge of your star. Leave the straw in your star until they are fully set and firm. You'll be able to gently pull the straw out of your bird feeder and thread with twine or a ribbon.
When all cookie cutters are full, slide your pan into the refrigerator to set overnight.
Next day, take them out and pop the bird feeders out of the forms, string twine or ribbon and add your paper stars.
Use these sweet star bird feeders to top gifts, hang on an outdoor tree or window.
If you think you would like to use these indoors, spray them with a layer or two of shellac so that the seeds stay put and don't end up on the floor in a warm home.
