Many Feet Make Light Work

I was inspired by our youth leader at church to make a 100 mile walk/run challenge to stock food banks sponsorship form and log to use over the course of the challenge.

You'll find both documents below that you can print out and start filling in.

The national event is driven by the National Center for Safe Routes to School and their Walk and Bike to School Day and Month.

The National Center for Safe Routes to School is committed to empowering communities to make walking and bicycling to school a safe, appealing, preferred choice for families.

The National Center facilitates communities in becoming places for safe walking and bicycling for everyone starting with children and the trip to school.

This unique 100 Mile Walk/Jog Challenge takes this great concept a little further to add more love to our community.

With this challenge you'll teach your kids about the benefits to getting to school in eco-friendly and healthy ways in addition to raising awareness about hunger in your community.

Sponsorship Tips

Get creative with ways to raise your sponsorship dollars to feed the hungry and stock food banks.

Here are a few methods to reach a large number of people who may be interested in helping you and your cause.

  • Reach out your local grocery store(s) to see if you can table outside of their front doors on a weekend morning.
  • Ask your school if you can post your project on their school bulletin board.
  • See if the popular coffee shop in your area would let you set up shop outside on weekday morning(s).
  • Ask local restaurants and small retailers if they would be interested in sponsoring you!

Say Thanks! in a Major Way

Regardless of the amount of sponsorship, plan to treat your sponsors with care.

Once the sponsorship has been made, but not collected, write a handwritten thank you note to your sponsors.

Thank each individual, company, or organization for showing their care for your community.

Here is a no-fail method to make writing thank you notes easy and effective.

Map Your Route

The easiest way to rack up as many miles in as little time as you'd like is to know how far you're traveling.

Use your car to gauge the distance on a couple of routes in your neighborhood.

Determine a short, medium and long route that you will like to walk or jog throughout the challenge.

Log each outing in the chart that's included below.

Make a Plan

This 100 Mile Walk/Run Challenge to Stock Food Banks may seem like an impossible challenge, but with a little planning, you will find that it's entirely possible to meet and exceed the challenge.

If you start your challenge in early October, you'll have six full months to complete the challenge.

If you evenly distribute the miles over each month that amounts to 16.6 miles per month.

When you break down each month's total, you're left with just over four miles per week.

You likely do that in a couple of days!
