DIY Felt Mistletoe

If you're like me, you like to use tools to help with efficiency when you can.

In this case, we've hung a mistletoe in our house for over a dozen years - year round! - to keep the love light burning or at least at a warm, calming glow.

Our ancient mistletoe has survived 3 moves, kitchen remodels and kiddo hands. For that, we're grateful!

I noted the mistletoe looking a little the worse for wear a couple of weeks ago.

Sad, but true, so in preparation for this holiday season and to amp up that loving glow, I thought I'd try my hand at a little crafted mistletoe.

Here's what I came up with.

My quick and cute felt mistletoe will be hanging in your threshold in mere minutes ready to kindle a cuddle and a few kisses to boot.

Here's what you'll need for your quick and cute felt mistletoe

  • green felt scraps
  • white or off-white felt scraps
  • green pipe cleaner or store-snagged twist tie
  • red ribbon for bow (use whatever color you like and works with you holiday decorating or decor)
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • glue

Here's what you'll do to make your quick and cute felt mistletoe

Start by firing up your glue gun

Cut the green felt into approximately 25-30 small mistletoe leaves, alternate sizes for interest

Cut the white felt into 3-5 small hearts

Twist pipe cleaner into a wishbone shape with one leg longer than the other (see photo)

Begin gluing green felt leaves onto pipe cleaner starting at the bottom and artfully overlapping the leaves as you go up the pipe cleaner.

Do both sides.

Now glue on your white hearts making sure to slide the hearts under the leaves a bit.

Use the remaining leaves to back the pipe cleaner so it looks good when seen from the back (you're painting the back of the fence here, folks!)

Tie a bow, cut and seal the ends, then glue the bow to the top of the mistletoe making sure to cover the top loop that will hang the mistletoe.

Hang your cute felt mistletoe with a Command hook that easily comes off post-holiday without marking walls.

Or consider what we've done and leave your felt mistletoe up year round.

Et voila! C'est tout! Now go get some kisses!!

Today is a gift. Let's put a bow on it!
