DIY Embroidered Baby Hat

Valentine's Day might traditionally be reserved for lovers, but if you want to show the person who taught you a new kind of love, you'll be gifting your sweet baby (or a baby you know!) with a special Valentine this February 14th.

Try our DIY Embroidered Baby Hat project for an easy, heirloom quality gift that will keep baby cozy and warm this winter.

Share your favorite baby nickname with the world or a sweet little motif when you hand embroider the brim of Satsuma Designs jersey hat.

Our jersey baby hat is designed to grow with baby and is perfect for a newborn to 12 months.

The trick is in the brim, which can be rolled up and down as necessary for a perfect fit and plenty of space to embroider your love note to your baby valentine.

How to make your DIY Embroidered Baby Hat for your Baby Valentine

Start by gathering materials including embroidery hoop, needle and floss.

These hats below are done freehand, but if you'd like use an erasing sewing pen, tailor's chalk or a light pencil to sketch your design on the brim of the hat.

Remember to sketch on the right side as the brim will be folded up. (speaking from experience!)

Now thread your embroidery needle and begin using a back-stitch embroidery stitch for your design. Here's a great 2 minute You Tube video on how to back-stitch. Super easy and great finish.

Continue stitching until your design is complete.

Try my little trio of hearts representing mommy, daddy and baby or the little LOVE+bug moniker for baby. #cute

Et voila! C'est tout. You now have a sweet Valentine Day keepsake for baby that's both practical and sentimental.

Now go give that baby a smooch! Did you try this Valentine's day project? Share a photo on InstgramFB or Twitter.
