DIY Dollar Store JCrew Pom Pom Socks
DIY Dollar Store JCrew Pom Pom Socks
JCrew's Crewcuts store has so many adorable options this season. I love their use of sequins and patches featuring pop symbols like pizza, monsters and puffball emojis. And JCrew is a great shop for kids' basics with a little flair. One item that caught my eye on a recent visit was their super cute pom pom socks. The three-pack is $12.50, which on sale I would consider, but since they're new they're running full price right now.
The nostalgic sock design gave me an idea on my recent trip to the dollar store for holiday decorating - Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day and gift basket shopping. I scored a three-pack of kids ankle socks for $1 and a big bag of medium sized pom poms for another dollar, topping out at $2.19 including tax, that's an 82% discount. If you want to know how to do the retail math on this, check out this percentage decrease formula, that's super handy to have at your fingertips to know how much you saved and celebrate! Here's how I turned my dollar store ankle socks into the current pom pom color pop pair you'll find here and at JCrew.
Here's what you'll need
- dollar store ankle socks
- dollar store pom pom pack
- embroidery thread
- embroidery needle (sharp one, but the kids can do this too so if necessary give them the duller needle)
- scissors
Here's what you'll do to make your pom pom socks
Thread your embroidery needle and start sewing a blanket stitch from the back cuff fold all the way around your cuff. Here's a nice and clear blanket stitch tutorial video to walk you through the method.
When you reach the back of your cuff, push your needle through the center of your pom pom and pull it through. Now loop the needle back through the pom pom so you're back at the cuff.
Do this a couple of more times.
To finish, thread your needle through the back of the sock cuff, but NOT through the pom pom and tie off.
You're done! Thanks for sharing the love when you Pin and Share this project!
