Easy Pinata Garland
Easy Pinata Garland
I'm constantly thinking about new ways to use toilet paper rolls. As a fervent upcycler, I hate the idea of recycling a perfectly good craft supply!
I was so happy to find a new role for my family's empty toilet paper rolls in the form of my easy pinata garland. And, if you're spare on toilet paper rolls, don't dismay. Cut a piece of card stock to your own dimensions and create a perfectly suitable tube for your pinata.
DIY Pinata Garland
It's so fun to decorate for Cinco De Mayo and this pinata garland is a perfect one to try with the little party goers in your home.
To make your own pinata garland, start with as many tubes as you would like. I used five and hung this from our dining room chandelier.
Remember the rule of odd numbers when choosing your tube number. Opt for 5, 7, 9 and so on.
Next, cut 12" crepe paper lengths in the colors you like. Try red, orange, yellow, green and purple for traditional fiesta colors.
Fold each length in half and half again to cut your fringe. Cut folds then cut up the paper leaving about 1/3" at the top to glue to your tube.
Before adding your fringe add a bottom to your tube by taping and/or gluing a piece of crepe paper to the base of your tube. If you'd like these to be working pinatas, score a small X in the paper and tape your pull tab tassel now.
Next, start at the bottom and add your fringe. Add glue stick adhesive to the tube and roll your fringe around until you reach the top.
Add a bit of twine with glue or tape inside the top of your tube to hang your pinata.
Details To Enjoy
One of my favorite details of these easy pinatas is the crepe paper tassel hanging from each pinata.
To make easy little tassels, cut a 6" length of crepe paper fold in half and half again then cut slits up the sides and middle to make a fringe.
Unfold your crepe paper and glue in place a length of string, ribbon or twine at one end of your paper. Now, roll the fringe up into a tassel shape.
BEFORE you come to the end of the paper, place 1" of glue on the edge then roll up and over the top of the tassel, which will to secure your tassel to the twine.
