Party Planner Toolkit Essentials
Party Planner Toolkit Essentials
Every practitioner needs her tools. Whatever the trade, the right materials to make the job easier and done well are essential. Here are my party planner toolkit essentials to help you build your arsenal to keep event planning smooth and successful.
I've listed my party planning tools in alphabetical order because I don't want to over emphasize one over the other, but if one item stands out it's my tape measure. I have a small one in my handbag at all times. I find I use my tape measure for any number of things from sizing home decor items to taking clothing measurements and of course space dimensions as event venues.
I carry a few candles in my handbag at all times and include a few varieties - singles, sparklers, numbers - in my party planner toolkit. There's a party around every corner when you have a candle on hand. (Don't forget your lighter or matchbook!)
I like to have a chunky calculator in addition to the calculator on my smart phone. A battery powered calculator is so easy to pull out and use with those nice big buttons!
The secret weapon of any designer, Command hooks go on and come off any surface or wall easily without marring the foundation. Consider large and small sizes of clear plastic hooks for your toolkit.
Double Sided Tape
Command hooks' cousin, double sided tape lets you create balloon garlands in a snap and hang signage flat when you need to. Opt for the largest width you can find.
This soft adhesive tape is activated when stretched. Make tight and beautiful flower arrangements, wreaths, floral crowns, boutonnieres, and more with this game changing tool.

Floral wire has a million applications. Create solid centerpieces, wall hangings, hang other items, etc. Great for flower arrangements and floral crowns, natch!
I love the natural look of hemp twine for all my hanging needs. I pair twine with my command hooks and tissue paper tassels for every party.
Lighter or Matchbook
You need something to light birthday candles and tea candles, which are an essential decor element for any gathering.
Manual Balloon Pump
This little life savers cost less than $5 and will inflate balloons galore. Don't stress your lungs and longer! It's fun to learn how to make balloon animals and designs when you have a manual balloon pump in your toolbox.
Schedule of Local Famers Markets
Many events call for seasonal produce and decor. Know your local farmers markets' schedule so you can develop vendor contacts and plan seasonal touches to all of your events.
Sharpie, Pen and Pencil with Eraser
Include a sharpie to mark bins, supplies and action plans. Have a ballpoint or ink pen on hand at all times to sign contracts, make notes, etc. Have a sharpened pencil with eraser for use on signage and other places where you'd like to leave inconspicuous marks.
The queen of all tools. Measure anything! Plan to have a construction style tape measure and a soft apparel tape measure as well.
Vendor Contacts on Smart Phone
Invest in a way to carry your contacts on you at all times and keep them updated. Use the notes section for standard terms and conditions and additional team members and their role.
Wholesale Flower Market Card
With a current business license, apply for a $25-$35 wholesale flower market card for access to wholesale flowers and greenery for all of your events.
