For years, I used the metal tea balls for loose tea.

But, over the years, the mechanics on the ball have deteriorated and don't work as well.

How To Sew Reusable Fabric Tea Bags

Start by cutting your fabric to size.

Next, set up your sewing machine with coordinating thread and a 2.5 mm stitch length.

A shorter stitch length is ideal for the open weave style fabric.

Now, fold 1/4” down, wrong sides together, and then another 1/4” down to create your hem.

Edge stitch this hem with 1/8” seam allowance.

Next, fold the hem down 2/3 of the length of the fabric panel - right sides together - so that the new hem is about 1" higher than the raw edge.

Place that piece of fabric on the table with hem side up.

Now, place the other piece of fabric that has been folded in half right sides together on top of the first piece of fabric.

This paired fabric is your tea bag!

Now, sew three sides with the sewing machine - side, bottom, side - leaving the folded edge open.

Trim the two bottom corners making sure not to cut the seam.

Turn the reusable tea bag right side out and it’s ready to fill!
