DIY Dollar Store Breakfast Tray
Do you like breakfast in bed? Me too! I LOVE breakfast in bed. I love the food, I love that I'm being served, I love the servers, I love the sweet touches that usually come with breakfast in bed: a flower, the newspaper, a mimosa perhaps, or at least orange juice in a champagne flute.
Thankfully this ritual happens at birthdays and other special family days, but I thought it would be fun to increase the frequency of breakfast in bed with my DIY dollar store breakfast tray. This handy and practical little DIY project took just an hour, which included paint dry time and we've had fun this summer surprising each other with breakfast in bed for no reason at all.
Here's what you need to create your own DIY dollar store breakfast tray:
- Dollar store oval tray - $1
- Paint - I used a metallic gun metal from Martha Stewart's line
- Paintbrush
- Drill
- Protective eye wear
- Heavy jute rope or other cord or think twine for the handles
- Screwdriver to work your drilled holes if necessary, it was for me.
Here's what you need to create your own DIY dollar store breakfast tray:
Start by setting up your work space and gathering your tools, paint, and supplies.
Drill 4 small holes, big enough to thread your rope handles through, but not too big.
Now paint your tray with 2-3 coats of paint.
When tray is dry, thread your handles through the holes and tie knots at the end to secure.
Et voila! You have your very own DIY dollar store tray ready to delight family with a sweet and toasty morning surprise. And let's hope they reciprocate!
