DIY Kentucky Derby Ribbons
DIY Kentucky Derby Ribbons
If you love to watch the ponies run, you will love this DIY Kentucky Derby ribbons project for your race day party.
I used traditional red and brown colors to make these easy 'blue' ribbons. With just a few materials, I pulled these together in no time. Use these DIY Kentucky Derby ribbons as decor or party favors for derby weekend.
Make your own Kentucky Derby Ribbons
It's easy to make these ribbons and then use the method to create lots of fun ribbons for any occasion.
Start by cutting TWO 12" long by 4" wide strip of kraft paper and accordion fold it with about 1/2" folds. Once your paper is folded glue the ends of one of each paper to each other.
You should have one long strip of paper. Now take the other ends and make a circle with your paper and glue those ends together. This makes the base of your ribbon.
Next cut your tassels from some kraft paper and glue them to the back of your accordion folded circle.
With your glue, embellish the front of your ribbon with tissue paper, circles, a horseshoe, small folded rosettes. Try my rosette tutorial here.
If you'd like to use these as a garland, glue a little twine loop to the back to easily string on some cording for a festive Run for the Roses garland.
