Holiday Ribbon Tree Base Options for No Power Tool Use

If you're working with the kids on this and prefer not to use a drill OR if you're having a hard time finding the perfect wooden base, employ other upcycled options, such as:

  • Yogurt jar
  • Small mason jar
  • Tea light candle holder

To create stability in each of these small vessels, try adding any of these filler devices:

  • Rice

Start by prepping your branches to turn into bases if you haven't already.

To do this, use a handsaw to cut branch to 2" length or desired length for base.

Next, use a little sand paper to even out your branch so that it sits flat.

Here comes the fun part with the power tools!

Compare the diameter of the twig that you'd like to use for your ribbon tree trunk and select a drill bit that closely matches the diameter.

Insert the drill bit into your drill and turn to tighten.

Now, secure your base with a wrench, clamp or your hand (protected by a glove!) and drill a small hole about 1/2" deep.

Next, you'll wrap your ribbons around your twig trunk and trim down the ribbon to create an elongated triangular shape and look you like.

When the twig is covered to your liking in ribbon it's time to connect the twig trunk to the base.

Add a drop of wood glue to the hole you created in your wood base and insert your twig trunk.

Let your tree dry and you're ready to display!

Happy Holidays!
